* Do you have experience developing life science research or molecular diagnostic assays
   for commercial products?

* Do you have experience managing a group of research and development scientists?

* Do you have experience with DNA hybridization and issues around primer/probe
hybridization in molecular biology assays (PCR, DNA sequencing, genotyping, etc.)?

* Do you prefer a small, start up company?

A small, start up company based in the Boston area is searching for a Director of
Biochemistry to head up a team to develop their first commercial reagent product for next
generation sequencing.  This company has some very interesting technology that has caught
the attention of the genomic thought leaders.  The company is developing a next generation
DNA sequencer that incorporates proprietary technology and ideas that are unique to the
current market. This company has funding and top notch management as well as significant
advisors.

The company has a pre-prototype instrument system (instrument/detection/reagent) and is
moving into the next stage of growth.  We are looking for someone with a track record in
developing assays especially with respect those needing DNA hybridization and detection.
We would like to hire someone that has studied the issues surrounding DNA hybridization as
well as someone with a good protein chemistry background.  The key candidate will have
management experience and be someone that can see the pathway to a fully developed
reagent kit and get the team there.  This candidate will be a good leader and yet, be a strong
tactical manager.

Responsibilities:

* Work with scientists and advisors to understand the needs of the company and help
develop a reagent strategy
* Design a plan to scope the specifications of the assays and create a development program
to solidify the assays and make them robust
* Build a team of bench scientists and engineers that will work on the biochemistry and
detection aspects of the commercial product

* Develop processes to ensure the quality of the reagents and the sustainability of the total
program throughout it's lifecycle
* Manage the team through successful milestones and monitor progress.  Develop
contingencies where needed

* Understand the quantitative measurements of the system and be able to build reagent
products that are effective in this system

Experience:

* PhD in biochemistry and/or molecular biology required
* 5-10 yrs of reagent development especially from a life science or molecular diagnostic
company
* Life science tool company or molecular diagnostic reagent development track record

* Protein biochemistry experience

* Experience building a total reagent program strategy, ability to lead team in designing
experiments, setting milestones, establishing specifications, meeting objectives
* Genomics background preferred (DNA sequencing, microarray, genotyping, genetic
analysis, gene expression, PCR, real time PCR, etc.)
* Management experience of 8-20 scientists required (hiring, supervising, motivating,
accountability) required

This company has very exciting technology and is in their next growth stage.  We are
searching for key members to join the research team to begin to add structure and process.
